It’s Fair Trade Fortnight (23rd February to 8th March 2009)

Over 2 billion people (1/3 of the worlds population) live on under $2 per day and are kept in poverty due to unfair trading regulations. Fair Trade is a peoples movement that aims to create trade in favour of the poorer producers in the world and is, indeed, a global movement.

During Fair Trade fortnight producer representatives will be in various locations across the UK to tell their stories of how Fair Trade has an impact on their, and their communities lives. There will be representatives from S.O.F.A. in Sri Lanka, cotton producers in Cameroon, a dried fruit co-operative in Burkina Faso, banana farmers in St Lucia and tea growers in India.

Ethical Superstore are offering FREE delivery on ALL orders during Fairtrade Fortnight.

There will also be events across the UK where there will a chance to explore in depth issues associated with Fair Trade. These are open to the general public and entry is free.
Individuals or groups can get involved by signing up and taking part in the GO Bananas challenge: the worlds biggest Fair Trade banana eating record attempt. Participants have to eat a Fair Trade banana between the hours of noon on Friday 6th March and  noon on Saturday 7th March.
